Woodworking

Over the last year or so I've begun to build little projects around the house. Nothing profound or especially skilled, but big things, made of wood. It's fun.

My dad's made furniture for years, he's really good at it. About a year or so ago (maybe in 2000), I talked to my dad about a certain lacking in my life, that things seemed 'flat', and none of my hobbies very fulfilling. He suggested woodworking as a means of breaking the cycle: build things that last, that affect the world around you.

Building a thing out of wood that you can then use, that changes your life -- not in a profound way, just making your life different. There's something satisfying about it.

Plus it gives me a good excuse to buy power tools!
