I Am Waiting

Murray Duffy (grade 11 student)

 I am waiting,
 perpetually hoping
for our great blind God, forgiver of sins,
to look in the mirror and see what He created in His own image.

 I am waiting,
 eternally praying
for Him to admit His mistake
 and to forget the rainbow.

 I am waiting,
 endlessly wishing
for Him to exhaust that self-destructive mechanism of hate
that He built into Adam and his broad, Eve.

 I am waiting,
 continually longing
for His final goodbye to Homo sapiens
and the end of a million years of civilized carnivores.

 I am waiting,
 forever expecting
 the end.

 * * *

In the end, God destroyed the Earth --
before man could retaliate on Heaven with ICBM's.
And God destroyed the waters thereof,
so man had nowhere to dump his sewage.
And God destroyed the firmament in the midst of the waters,
so man could no longer speculate, steal, and squander God's gift.
And God saw that it was good.
And God removed the grass and the fruit-yielding trees.
before man could cut them down for vacant lots.
And God saw that it was good.
And God removed the moving creature that hath life
and the fowl that may fly above the earth.
Man's "big game" was now restricted to himself --
 but he still hunted.
And God finally destroyed man -- male and female,
and took away his dominion over the fish of the sea
and the fowl of the air and the cattle of the earth.
And with his last breath man cried for Justice.
And God saw that it was good.
