Robot!!
Wow. We own a robot. We bought a Roomba Discovery from Canadian Tire on the weekend. We were skeptical at first, but it actually looks well designed, well built, and it does an excellent job vacuuming.
However, that's not the exciting part. It turns out that iRobot, the company that makes the Roomba, was founded by Rodney Brooks, the MIT AI research guy who did the Ghengis robot that taught itself to walk. This guy was obsessed with making robots that worked like insects: a few simple rules that could perform complex and collaborative tasks... and that's what the Roomba is. If you watch it, it has three or four behaviors that it enables based on sensory input, and the result, it vacuums your floor, getting good coverage and doing a good job.
:-) Fun, to have a bit of AI research in your own home. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anybody who likes robots.
