News

Things happen: my web page gets updated, significant events occur in my life, etc. I've seen other people have News sections on their website, so that people can quickly determine the new things without searching through everything. I've decided to try this.

The News

In this section, the most recent news is listed first.

February 6th/2004... 1:09pm

From now on, all new news will be in my blog. Everybody else has one, so I figured, why not me too? I've actually been using it for a bunch of news that isn't in this old news archive.

December 27th/2004... 4:29pm

Just a quick note - I just discovered that all the news posts in 2003 were mislabeled as 2004. It greatly confused me when I was looking back in my news archives -- I could have SWORN that Lisa and I'd been married 2 years. :-) It's been fixed.

July 19th/2004... 8:29pm

We bought a house! The new contact information is on the contacting me section: we take possession on the 6th of August.

Also, but no less exciting, the new MedHunters is up. This is the thing I've been working on for the past <longer than I want to admit>... but it's up, and public, and you can go to see it right now. It's very very cool.

May 22nd/2003... 7:23pm

Lisa and I have been married 5 wonderful months, and a happier 5 months I've never had. Meeting Lisa was the best thing that's ever happened to me -- I feel better about myself, I'm more ambitious, and my life seems to be on an upward march, rather than a downward spiral. Thanks Lisa!

Also, I've updated and moved the Villa Villatrolla part of the website: we've learned quite a bit about the house recently, and I'm restructuring the site to take it into account. Check it out. I also updated my links page.

January 8th/2003... 8:22pm

Lisa and I got married! It was a nice ceremony we mostly wrote ourselves -- the officiant asked if she could use it for other people's weddings (we said yes). :)

December 13th/2002... 9:35pm

Lisa and I are getting married! We're going to have a small ceremony in our house (which we're desperately trying to get painted before the big day) just after Christmas. It should be fun -- I'm excited about it.

We're going to have the ceremony in our living room -- we got a great big Christmas tree this year for decorating the place up real nice. We'll have a big prime rib meal with the best Caesar salad in the city (Lisa's mom's -- and I'm serious about the best thing). Mmmmm.... Fun fun.

October 1st/2002... 8:29pm

The Wilder website has been updated with many new pictures of stuff going on here, and has an entirely new look. Check it out! Also, the old ugly icons from the main site page have been replaced with a new, cleaner, nicer look. I'm not entirely happy with it yet, but it's certainly better than what was there before.

Thursday, September 19th/2002... 7:44pm

My picture archive was reformatted with a new Thumbnailer utility I wrote. 'sokay.

Wednesday, September 4th/2002...9:11pm

We're living in the wonderful environs of Villa Villatrolla now, fixing the place up (I'll try to put pictures up soon). Most of the plants are moved from the old house, so our gardens are starting to look like gardens. Two of the rooms are completely finished, many other rooms are still just torn apart. I've updated my contact information so people can phone or write us at the new place.

Wednesday, July 24th/2002...7:49pm

We're moving! We take posession on August 1st of a hundred year old farmhouse in Cambridge that we're going to rent from the Grand River Conservation Authority. Should be fun!

The new house's name shall be Villa Villatrolla, and it's a 4-bedroom fieldstone farmhouse. And not one of those old gross farmhouses, filled with racoons, bats, roaches and mold. This one's been kept in nice shape, the basement's dry and pest-free, and it backs onto an enormous conservation area, complete with lake and ravine.

Mature trees in the (large) yard, fenced-in dog enclosure, hundreds of feet (with trees) to the nearest neighbor ... it's not the perfect place, but it's pretty darn nice. More details will be posted here when they become available.

Friday, June 7th/2002...7:28pm

I went to my grandfather's memorial in South Dakota. I hadn't been there in years, it was quite an experience. Added pictures of my sword rack.

March 24th/2002...???

Added a link to a picture of the bed that I made.

Tuesday, March 5th/2002...9:06pm

Updated my digital camera archive to migrate stuff over from the wierd server it was on before... Combined the two archives into one. Mostly much better, all around.

Sunday, March 1st/2002...10:20pm

Fleshed out a few new areas of my site: Woodworking and Modelling. No pictures yet, they'll come soon.

Sunday, February 10th/2002...10:11pm

First update of the new year. I haven't updated sooner mostly because my upload process was broken. A bunch of files haven't been updated during uploads throughout the past two updates. Also apathy. Can't ever forget that!

We got a new dog -- a black lab named Pixie. Pictures will be forthcoming on Lisa's page, but she's about a year, very very cute, and a bit of a wild monster. She fits in well around here.

We got a new truck, or SUV rather, a Chevy Trailblazer, black. Pretty car, fun to drive around in, and it replaces both Lisa's old truck and my old minivan.

I'm building a wargames table! Mountains rising up in one corner, a lower hill on the other, ruins throughout, and a gorge running through the diagonal. Showing it is easier than explaining it -- Lisa's taking photos of the process, and I'll put it up online when I'm done, along with step-by-steps. It'll be a nice thing to start off the modelling section of my site, which is mostly dead.

Very few updates to the site. Mostly updated my Links Page a bit to reflect where I'm going lately. Fixed a couple of the links that were broken.

Thursday, August 28th/2001...11:00pm

I added a European Horse History page to Crystal Obelisk.

Finally, on my ObInternetLinks page, I added links to a couple of new sites (EN world and a new modelling site).

Thursday, August 16th/2001...8:57pm

I made a few minor updates to Crystal Obelisk.

Also, my site has moved to a new server -- should be no particular changes, although I had to jump through hoops to make it update properly, etc, again.

Finally, on my ObInternetLinks page, I added links to a couple new and funny online comics.

Saturday, July 1st/2001...11:05pm

I've put online an initial version of Crystal Obelisk. Crystal Obelisk is a rewrite of Magic Jar, new name, new technology, new licence, and new attitude. Check it out, and let me know what you think?

Saturday, June 16th/2001...10:04pm

3 days after the last update, my computer died again. Turns out it was a failed CPU fan, that's why it had died in the first place. So now it's up again, I still have data recovery to do, but mostly things are back on track.

My computer is, once again, a Windows 2000 box, with the same hard drive as before, although the motherboard has been upgraded to a PII-333, 256M RAM, new fast(er) video card, etc. Nicer than ever before.

I finally went to African Lion Safari!. I've heard about this Southern Ontario exhibit (with the Giraffes!) for years, but I've never been. I was beginning to doubt its existence. But today, Lisa and I went there. It was loads of fun (we even rode on an elephant!), pictures to follow soon.

We put an air conditioner into the new place -- it's been really hot the last few days, and the air conditioner has made all the difference.

I found a new roleplaying site: www.roleplayingtips.com. Well, new to me anyway. It's really neat -- I haven't got through it all yet, but it should be fun.

A minor website change: I've added a few links to my ObInternet Links page. Mostly for my own amusement, though.

Stay tuned for my next online project: Crystal Obelisk -- the first part will be entitled Don't eat them. A bit mysterious, I admit, but fun that way.

Note: Unison seems to be acting up a bit, I think something to do with reinstalling stuff -- hopefully there won't be any problems.

Sunday, April 29th/2001...8:27pm

After a month or two of having a crashed hard drive, I've finally gotten a computer back up and running at home. Lisa and I configured it -- it's now a Windows 2000 box, so I can run all the goodies like CorelDraw that I had sitting on the shelf forever. Feels good to have a computer at home again.

My website is now updated using a tool called Unison. It's much nicer, and doesn't take nearly as long. Worth checking out.

My poetry page has been massively overhauled, in particular to add the poem I Am Waiting, by Murray Duffy to it. I had to reorganize the page, tho, to account for poems by differing authors.

Saturday, March 7th/2001...9:47pm

Buddy's website has been updated with new pictures. Also, the Bryniau website has been updated to point at the Yahoo egroup. Plus, there's new pictures in the new picture archive.

Saturday, February 8th/2001...8:22pm

We got a dog! He's cute, fuzzy, and adorable! Pics and details on his own website.

Saturday, January 13th/2001...7:40am

Added a link to Hirst Arts on my obinternet links page, and added a new modelling section to the site.

Wednesday, December 20th/2000...11:05pm

We're mostly done the move. My new contact information is available on my contact page.

I have a cell phone, now -- the number is also on the contact page. I try to carry it around with me, with some minimal success.

The computers are set up, finally (as of a couple of minutes ago). I can update my websites again. Horray <weak cheer>

I'm going to be in Manitoba from the 24th to the 31st of December this year. I will, of course, have email then.

Saturday, October 28th/2000...8:17am

Lots of new news.

First, and probably most important, is that I'm dating a girl by the name of Lisa Wilder. She's very fun, and I'm very happy.

Second, as of December 1st, I will be moving into a new house, sloughing off my old life here at 91 Park Street. My phone number and stuff will likely change -- more news will be posted here.

Third, we've been playing 3rd edition Dungeons & Dragons for a few months now, and we're completely happy. All three core rulebooks have been released, I've been running a campaign for a while now, and I must say, it's re-invigorated my desire to game. Chris Thiessen is thinking of starting a second campaign, as well.

Fourth, we've moved into a new office, at 104 Walter Street, in Kitchener. It's a big old house, and much more fun than depressing office space in Waterloo Town Square.

Fifth, on my website, I've taken an idea I had for the Bryniau website and applied it to my own. I now have a People section, which has entries for many of the people in my life. I will slowly expand this list to include many of the people I know.

Erm, there's probably more, but none that I can think of offhand. Life is really good.

Wednesday, August 16th/2000...7:48am

I was just at Gen Con in Milwaukee over the weekend. Pictures are available on the photo gallery. It was pretty fun. Plus, the 3rd Edition Player's Handbook was released, so I'm all excited.

Tuesday, August 7th/2000...11:59am

Wow! Sleep! Now I get to go to work, and dump my digital camera.

Tuesday, August 6th/2000...12:46am

Just got back from SF. Did'ja miss me? I'll try to get the hundred or so pictures I took up on the site in the next day or two.

Tuesday, August 1st/2000...9:13am

I'm going to San Fransisco today (the San Fransisco trip I was supposed to have a week or so ago was delayed until now). I'll be back on Sunday, August 6th. That's a little less than one week. I won't have regular 'net access while I'm away, so I'll mostly be incommunicado the whole time. Should be fun: I'm bringing my digital camera and spare battery, so I'll put some pictures up of the trip when I get back.

Tuesday, August 1st/2000...7:50am

Adrienne and I are no longer together. We'd been together for many years, even got married, and now it's done. We're both ok with it. In the end, it was both of us who decided that it wasn't working out. But that's the news.

Monday, July 30th/2000...9:11am

I got a Canon S100 Digital Elph camera a couple of days ago. It's one of the most fun toys ever. Anyway, I've got an archive of images on my website now. Go to my photo gallery to see them.

Monday, July 10th/2000...8:12am

Added a bunch of my friends to the ObInternet Links section. The list has never been comprehensive, or even particularly complete: I decided to flesh it out a bit. I'm not sure who, of all my friends, have websites: if you're a friend of mine who's not listed, mail me, and I'll stick you in.

Monday, July 3rd/2000...8:44am

Travel coming up! On the 14th through the 17th, I'm going to be in Manitoba (visiting parents, still with net access), and from the 18th through the 22nd or so, I'll be in San Francisco (for work, without net access). Should be a fun month. Next month, on the 10th, me and a bunch of friends are driving to Wisconson to go to Gen Con. Yay!

Updated some of my friend's links in my ObInternet Links section. No more dead links: all my friends whose websites were dead are now back up!

Friday, May 19th/2000...6:30am

On April 29th, I climbed the CN tower with some CKMS (the UW campus radio station) programmers. There's some pictures of them, Chris and I, before and after the climb... (mostly after, no?).

Greg Cymbalist's new web page added to my ObInternet Links Page

Saturday, May 6th/2000...7:38am (same time of day as last update!)

Ethics page updated.

My current plan includes pages for some of the projects which I want to see done in the world, like my free software boat, my 3d virtual world, and my roleplaying mapping utility. This list could grow over time.

Last saturday, I climbed the stairs of the CN tower, 1776 stairs, in 33 minutes and 4 seconds. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although I thought I might die at the end. I also was on the The Garry Show, my favorite radio show.

Last night, I went to see the movie Gladiator. A wonderful movie. Watch it.

Wednesday, April 19th/2000...7:38am

Added more pictures to my photo gallery.

This is more dramatic than it might first appear, for two reasons. First, it's the first time many people have seen me with no hair. Second, I actually scanned these images using Linux, which means that I got my HP ScanJet 5200C (a parallel port scanner) to work under Linux, which was a big pain in the butt. Anyway, it's done now (plus I got my sound card working!), so my Linux box is pretty much what I want it to be. Yay! I don't have to be quite so much of a second-class citizen because of my OS anymore!

Monday, April 8th/2000...9:06am

Added a new ethics page.

Added some online comics to my links page.

Monday, March 26th/2000...8:46am

Added my To Do List.

Monday, March 20th/2000...6:58pm

A bunch of minor editorial changes to much of the site.

Monday, March 20th/2000...7:52am

Released v1.1 of Clapi. Some new features -- see the web page for details.

Saturday, March 18th/2000...10:39am

Added a new Software sub-page, for descriptions of software I've written and released online. More and more things will be placed here as time goes on.

Released Clapi: my Java command-line processor. I hated all the other ones, so solved the problem entirely, once and for all.

Friday, March 17th/2000...6:53am

My news archive begins.

The other major update in this version of my website is my new image gallery. It cleans up the design of my personal info page quite a bit to have the images pulled off. In addition, there is commentary associated with many of the images that have been around here for a long time, giving a bit of history for them.

In my life, I'm largely finished building my workbench: it's turning out really well.

Older Events

Around March 10th, I made a significant update to the site, changing a lot of the look and feel, and updating lots of text that had been sacrosanct since the site's inception.

It's been so long, I can't remember much of the older stuff... so I'll go right back to the beginning.

In 1994-1995, my web site was first put on the Internet. In those days, the Internet was a much smaller, simpler thing. I remember writing the first versions of this thing, and not knowing anything really about HTML. <chuckle> ... how things have changed.
