Tropical Grassland (Savanna)

Vast, wet, hot grasslands, studded with the occasional
tree.

Description

<art href="../ImageCatalog/savanna1.gif"/>Savanna grows in areas
where high rainfall is interspersed with drought and fire. The
fires and drought prevent the area from transforming into tropical
    rainforest.

Note that this is an oversimplification: there are several ways
for land that would otherwise be tropical rainforest to become
savanna, including the grazing of animals (elephants in
particular), poor soil conditions, and farming by so-called
    "civilized" races.

Very similar to a hot prairie, large herbivores stalk the
horizons, small copses of trees dot the landscape here and there,
and small mammals, birds, and insects are your ever-present
    friends.

The savanna is near and dear to my heart because my totem
animal, the giraffe, is native there. What could be more
beautiful than a herd of giraffes stalking across the tree-studded
    tropical grassland, noble and tall...?

Climate

    <head2>General Notes</head2>

Savannas tend to be warm, tending to very hot. Large amounts
of precipitation occur in the rainy season, and enormous fires
raze the landscape during the dry season droughts.

For the most part, if it weren't for the dry season, most
savannas would be transformed into tropical rainforests.
